Impacting Literacy in Wichita
Reading Well focuses on investments that will impact literacy achievements in our city.
The Wichita Community Foundation commissioned Transformative Concepts Consulting Group in 2015 to conduct research and provide recommendations to assist our organization in making informed decisions about possible and potential literacy efforts. An executive summary is available for viewing.
As recommended in the Literacy Audit, the WCF hosted a Literacy Symposium in March 2016 to learn what agencies, churches, schools and others who work in the field are doing. During this process the group identified gaps and began the conversation about potential ways to address areas of need.
Kansas Children's Literacy Festival
WCF financially supported the Kansas Children's Literacy Festival, hosted by Storytime Village. This four-day festival in the fall of 2016 ignited an excitement in students to read and write, provided teachers with resources to better teach literacy and exposed specialists, administrators, parents and grandparents to diverse literacy skills.
