How can my scholarship award be used?

Scholarship awards may only be used for tuition, fees and educational materials not paid for by state or federal grants. 

Will the scholarship award be paid directly to me?

No, awards will be paid directly to the educational, academic or training institution of the awardee.

Do I have to use my scholarship award by a certain date?

Yes, all scholarships will be forfeited if not used within six (6) months from the date they are awarded. Exceptions to this rule are rare and are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Who selects recipients of a scholarship award?

The Scholarship Selection Committee determines the recipient(s). The Board of Directors of the Wichita Community Foundation will appoint the Selection Committee, which is comprised of members from the organization presenting the scholarship, and representatives from the Wichita Community Foundation. The committee shall recommend the selection of the scholarship recipients to the Wichita Community Foundation for approval.

Can I be related to any member of the Scholarship Selection Committee?

No, a scholarship applicant may not have a blood or marriage relationship to any member of the Scholarship Selection Committee or any member of the Wichita Community Foundation Board of Directors or staff.

Do I have to have a FAFSA to apply for a scholarship?

Yes, a FAFSA is a requirement for all of our scholarships. If you have not yet filled out the form, please do so at fafsa.ed.gov. Your information will be kept confidential, and will only be used by the Selection Committee to determine financial need regarding your scholarship.

How will I be notified if I'm selected to receive a scholarship?

Scholarship recipients will be personally notified via phone call. A list of all scholarship recipients will also be posted on our Awarded Scholarships page. Your high school will only be notified at their request.

Can I apply for more than one scholarship?

Yes, you can apply for as many scholarships as you'd like.

How do I convert my Microsoft Word document to a PDF to attach to my scholarship application?

Open your file in Microsoft Word. In the top, left-hand corner of the window, select "File." In the drop-down menu, select "Save as Adobe PDF." Your file will be converted to an accepted format to then upload to your application.
