Wichita Community Foundation transitions staff, expands scope
Wichita, Kan. – In response to a growing need for an increase in further philanthropic impact, the Wichita Community Foundation has promoted James Woods to the newly-created position of director of nonprofit services and hired Portia Portugal as the manager of donor services.
“As the Foundation has transitioned to transformational, long-term impact grant-making, we identified the need to expand our staff to position ourselves to best direct efforts to further opportunities in our city,” said WCF President and CEO Shelly Prichard.
As director of nonprofit services, Woods will serve as a knowledge-broker for nonprofit and community partners, as well as connect organizations with resources within WCF and the community. In addition to being the nonprofit liaison, Woods will also administer donor-directed competitive grant rounds and manage WCF’s Field of Interest funds.
Portugal, most recently the executive director at Dress for Success Wichita, will help build and manage WCF’s philanthropic endowments and provide services to WCF fund holders as they pursue specified charitable goals.
“I'm eager to join the Wichita Community Foundation team and take part in some truly innovative work in our community,” said Portugal. “I look forward to growing in this new position, and I’m thankful for all of the opportunities my time at Dress for Success Wichita has brought me.”
Woods and Portugal will work closely with one another to align fund holders’ charitable wishes with nonprofits’ current needs. Portugal joins the WCF team on June 3, 2019.
