Local Agencies Meet Foundation Challenge
Three Wichita non-profit organizations
successfully raised the necessary dollars to establish endowment
funds with the Wichita Community Foundation. The ARC of Sedgwick
County and Rainbows United Charitable Foundation each raised
$150,000 and Starkey, Inc. raised $50,000. These dollars were
matched by the Foundation with one dollar for every three
dollars raised. “We have found that offering challenge grants is
one of the best ways to help the nonprofit agencies strengthen
their financial resources.” said Jim Moore, Executive Director
of the Wichita Community Foundation. “Establishing endowments
help agencies sustain their financial health and continue their
mission.”
The agencies were selected in December 2003 to
participate in the challenge and had until December 31, 2004 to
raise the dollars to be matched. This is the second round of the
Challenge program offered by the Foundation. In the first round,
the Friends of the Wichita Public Library and the Kansas Humane
Society of Wichita received grants to establish endowments.
